The 2025 Sabah State Election has been an important turning point in the country’s political history with various parties vying to form the government.

When is the 2025 Sabah State Election?

As of the 16th dissolution of the 16th Sabah State Assembly which took place on 6 October 2025, the official date for the 2025 Sabah elections has not yet been decided. But according to the Constitution, the EC must hold elections Within 60 days From the date of dissolution of this State Assembly, before or on 5 December 2025.

According to the chairman of the EC, Dato ‘Sri Ramlan Dato’ Harun, said that the EC was aware of the dissolution and would hold a special meeting in the near future.

The meeting was to discuss important dates for implementing the election.

According to him, the nomination date, voting day and voting will be determined after a special meeting is held.

The 16th Sabah State Assembly saw a tight race between the government and opposition and 447 candidates vying for 73 seats.

The Sabah People’s Coalition (GRS) emerged as the largest bloc with 29 seats, followed by BN and Pahlawan. The high voting percentage was 66.61%, indicating Sabah’s importance in the country’s political future.

The GRS victory led to the formation of a new state government, marking an important change in Sabah’s political landscape after several years under legacies.
