Did you not have time to fast last year? You are not sure whether to pay or not?
See the full distribution below.
What is Fidyah?
Payment of ransom is mandatory. It must be completed according to the remaining number of days.
If it is not implemented, it will become a liability or debt to Allah SWT.

CONDITIONAL ARGUMENT
i) Al-Qur’an
Word of Allah SWT:
A few days. Then whoever among you is sick or on a journey, then a number of other days. And for those who are able to bear it, a ransom must be given by feeding the poor. So whoever does good voluntarily, it is better for him, and fasting is better for you, if you only knew.
It means: “(Fasting which is obligatory is for a certain number of days; so whoever among you is sick, or is on a journey, (can break the fast), then it is obligatory for him to fast as much (according to the breaking days) on the other days; and it is obligatory for those who are unable to fast (because of old age and so on) to pay fidyah, namely giving food to the poor. So whoever voluntarily gives (payment of fidyah) more than what is required, then it is a good thing for him; and (although) fasting is better for you rather than paying a ransom), if you knew.” (Surah al-Baqarah: 184)
ii) All-Hadith
Hadith from Abdullah bin Umar ra that the Prophet SAW said:
Whoever dies and must fast for a month, let him give food to the poor on his behalf every day
It means: “Whoever dies while he is still fasting in Ramadan, he should give food to the poor for every day he has left.” (History of al-Tirmizi)
Who is obliged to pay Fidyah?
1. Uzur fulfills the obligatory fast
It consists of people who are seriously ill and have no hope of recovery, or elderly people who are unable to fast, or both.
2. Pregnant women
As long as she is worried about the safety of the baby she is carrying, such as miscarriage. This group is obliged to pay fidyah and also make up for missed fasts.
3. Mothers who breastfeed their children
As long as the mother is worried that it will harm the baby she is breastfeeding, such as a lack of breast milk or an impact on the baby’s health. So he makes up for the missed fast and pays the fidyah.
4. People who have died
Fasting debts for those who die must be paid off by their heirs according to the number of days remaining before the inheritance is distributed.
5. Postponing Fasting (Qada’)
Anyone who delays the replacement of his fast until after the following year (the month of Ramadan), is subject to a fidyah fine and is also obliged to replace (qada’) the missed fast. Fidyah payments will be doubled according to the number of years remaining

How to Calculate Fidyah
The price of fidyah payments is calculated based on the current price of rice, namely one cup.
The price changes according to the current price set by the government in a particular place.
The rice resulting from this payment must be distributed to the poor.
To calculate the amount that must be paid, the calculation is according to the formula below:
Number of non-fasting days X Fidyah rate = Fidyah to be paid.
Calculation Example:
The remaining rate for one day of fasting is one glass of rice which can be used as zakat fitrah (1/4 of a Baghdad bushel).
In the form of valuation, based on the rates set by the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council up to 1446H, a cup of rice equivalent to 567.5 grams is priced at RM4.00.
Example:
If someone breaks his fast for 3 days and does not replace his fast 3 times in the month of Ramadan, then the amount of fidyah is:
RM4.00 (1 cupak) X 3 days X 3 years = RM16.20
*The number of days of fasting required in qadha remains only 3 days. It’s just that the payment is doubled.

What is Double Fidyah?
If the fast is left for several years, there are some countries which stipulate that the fidyah must be multiplied by the number of years remaining.
For example, if fasting is abandoned in 2016 (1437 AH), then the number of years is calculated from 2017 (1438 AH) to 2022 (1443 AH).
So, the count of circumstances that need to be doubled is as follows:
The first year 1437 AH to 1438 AH does not need to be counted because it is still within the period of fasting and the next Ramadan has not yet begun.
Number of non-fasting days X Fidyah Rate X Number of Years Remaining = Fidyah to be paid
Fidyah Payment Law
The law of paying fidyah is mandatory. It must be completed according to the remaining number of days. This also becomes a responsibility (debt) to Allah SWT if it is not implemented.
This is based on the word of Allah in Surah Al Baqarah verse 184,
“The obligatory fast is for a certain number of days; So whoever among you is sick, or is on a journey, (can break the fast), it is obligatory for him to fast as much as (days of breaking the fast) on other days; and it is obligatory for people who are unable to fast (because of old age and so on) to pay fidyah, namely giving food to the poor. So whoever voluntarily gives more than what is specified, then it is a good thing for him; and (nevertheless) fasting is better for you than paying a ransom), if you only knew.“
Hope it’s useful and don’t forget to pay!
