About Food Hygiene

Based on the hadith, the Prophet SAW once said:

“Cover food containers and tie beverage containers. Indeed, in one year a plague will come upon him, which will not pass through every open food vessel or untied drink vessel, but rather the plague will spread.” [Hadis riwayat Muslim]

Food-related illnesses are:

• Campylobacteriosis
• Salmonellosis
• Food poisoning Escherichia coli
• Food poisoning Staphylococcus
• Food poisoning Vibrio parahaemolyticus
• Food poisoning Clostridium perfringens

The Importance of Food Hygiene

The interests of food hygiene are as follows:

1. Preventing Foodborne Illnesses – Food contamination can cause food poisoning and illnesses such as diarrhea, vomiting or dangerous bacterial infections.
2. Guarantee Quality & Safety – Clean food is not only safe, but also retains its original taste, texture and nutrients.

• Wear headgear and a clean apron
• Do not use your hands directly to touch food
• Don’t wear accessories on your hands

• Don’t sneeze or cough into food
• Wounds on hands are bandaged as best as possible

• Clean and far from sources of pollution (waterways and rubbish bins)
• Covers food perfectly
• Make sure ice is stored in a clean container

iii) Food Selection

• Make sure the food is in good condition, clean and covered
• Practice looking and smelling the taste before eating
• As for drinks, choose drinks made from boiled water and in clean containers
