MyBrain 2.0 – 2025 Application Results Overview

Introduction to My Brain

The MyBrain program or known as MyBrain15 is a high impact product that was introduced in 2011 but was discontinued in 2016.

MyBrain15 is a postgraduate study program at Masters & PhD level sponsored by the Malaysian government created under the 10th Malaysia Plan.

The aim of the MyBrain15 program is to reach 60,000 PhD degree holders among Malaysian citizens.

The MyMaster and MyPhD programs were created under MyBrain15 and target Masters and PhD students at state universities (IPTA) and private educational institutions (IPTS) respectively. The Industrial PhD, MyMaster and MyPhD programs are open to public and private lecturers/staff who wish to continue their studies.

After considering the potential and the government’s efforts to produce many intellectuals and experts to support the welfare goals of national development, the government agreed to introduce and re-implement this scholarship program starting in 2025.

The reintroduction of the MyBrain 2.0 program will encourage more Malaysians to obtain a better level of education.

This program is open to people who do not work or do not have a fixed income and selected Private University (IPTS) lecturers to continue their studies at the Master’s and Doctoral levels at State Universities (UA) in the country.

List of MyBrain 2.0 Recipients:

• Target is 500 recipients every year.
• Civilians who do not work or do not have a fixed income.
• Private Higher Education Lecturer (IPTS).

Field of study:

• Priority in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM); And
• Selected Social Sciences and Special Literature.

This time too, every shortlisted applicant will be interviewed to ensure that only truly qualified candidates will be awarded sponsorship.

Goals of MyBrain 2.0

• Developing human resources & empowering highly skilled talents in the field of research
• Contribute to the marketability of graduates, career advancement, increased income and living standards
• Increase the visibility and Ranking of Malaysia’s Public Universities (UA) and higher education sector

Eligibility Conditions

General Terms

• Applicants must:
  • Civilians who do not work or do not have a fixed income; or
  • Selected IPTS lecturers such as Appendix A.
• Malaysian citizens aged no more than 35 years old for studies at Masters level or 45 years old for studies at Doctoral level in the year of application;
• Do not accept educational sponsorship/scholarships in any form from other sponsors except study loans/postgraduate research assistant allowances/other additional funds provided that they do not SCHOLARSHIP;
• If the student has contractual obligations from any sponsor while at the level of study being followed, the sponsor is willing to release contractual obligations if this sponsorship is offered;
• Have received a full/unconditional offer letter from an HEI or have started full-time studies at a specific HEI e.g Appendix B started Semester 1, Session 2026/2027For students who have started their studies, remaining study period at least 12 months for Master’s studies and 24 months for Doctoral studies in Semester 1 Session 2026/2027;
• The fields of study sponsored by the MyBrain 2.0 Program are as follows Appendix C;
• Applicants for Masters and Doctoral programs must ensure that the research proposal has been approved and verified by the supervisor/prospective supervisor;
• Have good health and do not suffer from chronic diseases such as Appendix D; And
• The applicant and his mother and/or father are not on the Government’s blacklist or are currently under legal action by the Government.

Special Conditions

MASTER’S DEGREE:

• Applicants do not have a Master’s degree or equivalent at the time of application;
• Applicants must meet the following minimum academic qualification requirements:
  • Acquire Minimum Grade Point Average (CGPA) 3.00 / Upper Second Class / equivalent at Bachelor level studies;
  • Earn at least Minimum CGPA 3.30 for last semester result if the applicant is studying at the Master’s level in Mixed mode (Coursework and Thesis) with the specified minimum remaining study period;
• The sponsorship category is open to Research and Mixed Study (Coursework and Thesis) modes.

DOCTORAL DEGREE (PHD)

• Applicants do not yet have a Doctoral degree or equivalent at the time of application;
• Applicants must meet the following minimum academic qualification requirements:
• Acquire Minimum CGPA 3.30/equivalent for coursework or Mixed (Coursework and Thesis) study mode for Master’s Degree studies; or
• Pass to study mode with research Master’s degree; or
• Have received a full offer letter / started studies at IPT for the PhD Fast Track pathway.
• The sponsorship category is only open to How to learn research only

MyBrain 2.0 Application Date

Registration for MyBrain 2.0 sponsors for 2025 is now open February 4, 2026 to March 4, 2026.
