I did it! I made an iPhone application and officially joined millions of millions of developers with applications on the Apple App Store. Heepix: Photo from where you are.

Over the past few years, especially when traveling, I keep asking myself, “What photos have I taken here?” Of course, you can dig through your cellphone to find it, but why no application directly shows you all the images that you have taken in a particular location? Apparently, some applications do exist, but they are bloated with unnecessary features. I want something simpler, more intuitive.
Even though I always feel comfortable with technology, I never really see myself as an application developer. I have spent more time with scripts and found programming oriented to challenging objects especially in college when I struggle through the Java class. I have tried to make a simple application with a fast tutorial or playground, but they feel like exercise without real purpose in mind.
That’s when I decided to try a different route. I know I can find out the application design and change the code if someone can give me a solid starting point. After seeing the way outsourcing application development works in my daily job, I think, why not try it for my personal project? I switched to Upwork, a platform similar to Uber or Taskrabbit, where freelancers offered work. I found overseas developers who agreed to help me with the basic foundation of the application. Within a week, he has given the framework code, and I have an application that does the basis of what I imagine.

That’s when the real pleasure began. I started perfecting the application, working on branding – Enter HeepixThe name I have held for years for this right idea. I diving to study Swift, UKITK, and build layout, focus on visual elements and take applications outside the initial framework. Today, only about 5% of the code in the version released by Heepix comes from freelancers; The rest is the result of time, my efforts, and a lot of trial.

I started testing Heepix with the Xcode simulator, then on my own iPhone. Every time I go to a new place, I will open the application and verify that all my photos from that location are displayed. I am happy to say that this application is now everything I want – simple, intuitive, and exactly what I imagine.
Of course, this won’t make me lucky. In fact, this is a free application that is likely not to be considered by most people, but that’s not why I succeed. This is a passion project, something I do for the excitement of creating. And who knows, maybe it will lead to the application in the future.
So, if you are curious, give it Heepix try. I want to hear what you think, and I have fun to make it!
Until this post, Heepix is available worldwide on the Apple App Store for iPhone that runs iOS 18.0 or more recently.
