History of Federal Territories Day

According to records, Federal Territory Day was declared by the former Second Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Abdul Razak in 1974 to commemorate the founding of the Federal Territory.

The Federal Territory is a region that includes three regions which include Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya.

Kuala Lumpur was the first province to be declared a Federal Territory on 1 February 1974.

The decision to make Kuala Lumpur a Federal Territory is not only political but also from an economic perspective to ensure the central government develops Kuala Lumpur as a financial and investment center for all of Malaysia.

The second region to be declared a Federal Territory was Labuan which was transferred from Sabah in 1984.

This is an effort to make Labuah a service center for the oil and gas industry in the country.

The third Federal Territory is Putrajaya which was declared in 2001 as the administrative and judicial center, while Kuala Lumpur remains the legislative or legislative center.

The idea of ​​establishing a third Federal Territory and also as an alternative capital to Kuala Lumpur emerged in the 1980s when two regions became the main choices, namely Prang Besar in Selangor and Janda Baik in Pahang.

The Federal Government then chose the Prang Besar area and changed the name to Putrajaya.
