About KBS Sports Fund
The KBS 2026 sports fund is a grant initiative from the Malaysian Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) to empower the younger generation and develop the Malaysian sports ecosystem.
The program aims to fund more than 50 projects, involving 22,000 youth across the country, with a focus on inclusion, skills development and digital engagement, especially in disadvantaged and rural communities.
In line with the National Sports Development Guidelines (NESDEG), launched by KBS in 2023, the Sports Fund supports projects that comply with the NESDEG framework for a safe, inclusive and sustainable sports industry.
NESDEG’s six core areas are player contract management, the application of governance in the organization of events, child monitoring and protection, sports financial guidance, career path guidance and school organization, and the application of sports science and medicine in sports designed to ensure fair treatment, professional events, youth safety, and skills development.
All funded projects must comply with NESDEG standards to encourage ethical practices, diversity and long-term impact.
KBS Esukan Fund Objectives
The purpose of this fund was created to:
- Provide accessible and inclusive funding for a wide range of sports projects, ensuring that youth from all regions, backgrounds and socio-economic levels can participate and benefit.
- Increasing participation in sports by engaging more than 22,000 young participants and creating a pipeline for grassroots talent to transition into professional players, organizers and content creators.
- Enhance the skills and capabilities of the Malaysian sports workforce through dedicated workshops, training programs and mentoring opportunities for players, coaches and industry stakeholders.
- Expanding access to sport in underprivileged and rural areas by funding projects that connect these communities with Malaysia’s larger sports network.
- Promote the production of high-quality digital content, sports technology and strategic research, contributing to the development of Malaysia’s digital economy.
- Creating a friendly sports ecosystem and providing equal opportunities for individuals regardless of gender, geography or socioeconomic background, ensuring broad participation and community impact.
Types of Projects Funded
The types of projects funded are as follows:
i- Events and Tournaments
Competitive sports tournaments and public engagement events that:
- Provides a platform for amateur and semi-professional players.
- Develop a sports culture and community through activities such as festivals, exhibitions and viewing parties.
- Encourage community participation and involvement.
Eligible Subcategories/Activities:
- Sports tournament
- Watch Party
- Esukan Festivals & Exhibitions
Targets (KPI) for each project:
- 300 participants for each event
- 15,000 views for each event
Funding applications start from RM5,000 to RM20,000.00
ii- Content Creation
Support for the production and dissemination of sports-related digital content. This includes live streams, educational videos, and gaming documentaries.
The aim is to:
- Promoting Malaysia’s sporting stories and talents.
- Increase engagement and awareness.
- Increasing the visibility of local sports content on digital platforms.
Eligible Subcategories/Activities:
- Digital video series, web series and social media campaigns.
- Podcasts and live streaming discussions (eg: sports careers, industry advocacy).
Targets (KPI) for each project:
- 40,000 views per event

Overall Working Paper containing details such as:
- Budget Details
- Key performance indicators (KPIs) and impact plans
- Registered entity details
- Team: Minimum 5 members
- Application: Complete the eligibility screening and submit documents online.
