An Identity Card (or MyKad) is a Malaysian citizen’s identity document that contains personal data about him or her.

The obligation to register an identity card for someone who has reached the age of 12 is subject to Malaysian law:

According to Regulation 3 of the National Registration Regulations 1990 (Amendment 2007) every child who has reached the age of 12 and is a citizen must register to obtain a National Identity Card.

What is MyKad 12 year?

My12 or MyKad 12 means that children who have reached the age of 12 MUST register to get a Resident Identity Card for the first time.

MyKad is a smart identity card for Malaysian citizens introduced by the National Registration Department (JPN).

12 Year Identity Card Application Requirements

Someone who meets the conditions below can register their identity card:

  1. Applicants must be 12 years old but not yet 16 years old.
  2. Applicants must be present with the Organizer
    2.1. Mother or Father; or
    2.2. Guardian (Guardian is a grandfather, grandmother or aunt or uncle or sister or brother who is over 21 years old).
  3. Applicants must submit an application within 30 days from the date they turn 12 years old. Otherwise, processing fees will be charged.
  4. If the organizer is other than the group above, it is necessary to submit a legal certificate and must be accompanied by a certificate of management from the Department of Social Welfare (JKM).

Required Supporting Documents

For verification purposes, individuals wishing to register an identity card must bring the following documents:

  1. APPLICANT DOCUMENTS (ORIGINAL)
    1.1. Birth Certificate or Adoption Certificate or Citizenship Certificate or Letter of Confirmation of Citizenship Status or Citizenship Form or Attachment A (JAKOA).
    1.2. Passport for applicants domiciled abroad.
  2. ORGANIZATION DOCUMENTS (ORIGINAL)
    2.1. Organizer’s Identity Card (Mother or Father or Guardian)
    2.2. Caregivers who are not related need to submit a statutory certificate and must bring a care applicant certificate from the Department of Social Welfare (JKM).
    2.3. Organizer’s country of origin passport for Non-Citizens.
  3. SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS
    3.1 If the address does not match the organizer’s address, then you must submit the electricity bill/water bill/sewage bill/utility bill/door tax/assessment tax/income tax assessment form/house sale agreement/house rental agreement or receipt/supporting documents from the Penghulu/Village Head/Tuai Rumah/Assembly Member/Parliamentary Member/Employer/Armed Forces of Malaysia (ATM) or other similar documents. (ORIGINAL OR CERTIFIED COPY)

Registration fee

Applicants must submit an application within 30 days from the date they turn 12 years old. Otherwise, processing fees will be charged.

12 Year Identity Card Application Procedure

Applicants must come to the NRD Counter with the Organizer and bring the original documents that need to be submitted.

However, for those who first made an KTP when they were 12 years old, applying for this KTP can also be done online, saving more time.
