The Chery Tiggo 9 is now officially the newest flagship model in Chery’s SUV range in Malaysia, strengthening the Chinese brand’s position in the increasingly competitive D-SUV segment.
Launched with great fanfare at the historic Sultan Abdul Samad Building, the Chery Tiggo 9 is a seven-seater SUV that combines luxury styling, advanced technology and solid performance, while offering highly competitive value in the local market.
At its launch, the Chery Tiggo 9 offered in Malaysia was only the internal combustion engine (ICE) variant.
However, Chery Malaysia has previously stated that a variant with the Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) plug-in hybrid (PHEV) drive system will follow in the future, most likely in the first half of next year.
This PHEV variant is expected to use a 1.5 liter turbo system with two electric motors, but battery specifications and mileage for the local market have not been announced.
Chery Tiggo 9 specifications
The Chery Tiggo 9 is powered by the same 2.0-liter TGDi (Turbocharged Gasoline Direct Injection) four-cylinder engine used in the Tiggo 8 Pro. This powerful unit is capable of producing 256 PS of power and 390 Nm of torque, providing responsive acceleration for a large SUV.
The power is sent to all wheels via an intelligent all-wheel drive (AWD) system, a significant improvement over its front-wheel-drive sibling.
This AWD system is combined with a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox (DCT) which is capable of changing gears smoothly and quickly.
To adapt to various road conditions, the Chery Tiggo 9 offers seven driving modes, namely Eco, Normal, Sport, Sand, Mud, Snow and Off-Road so it is ready to face various challenges ranging from city streets to light off-road routes.
In terms of efficiency, oil consumption is recorded at 8.3 liters per 100 kilometers, while acceleration from 0-100 km/h can be achieved in 9.3 seconds.
With a fuel tank capacity of 65 liters, its large size with dimensions of length 4,810 mm, width 1,925 mm and wheelbase 2,800 mm promises a spacious cabin for the comfort of all passengers.
Exterior Design
The Chery Tiggo 9’s exterior design comes with its own personality, moving away from the “Mercedes-Benz inspired” styling found on some other models in the Chery group.
The appearance is cleaner and more elegant, with a fresh modern touch and the main features that stand out include a large 3D diamond-shaped front grille, full LED headlights with dynamic flow type signal lights (sequential lights), and LED rear lights with a diamond element design.
Appearing with luxuriously designed 20 inch alloy rims, neat flush type door handles, and puddle lamps (projection lights under the door) add an exclusive element.
The Chery Tiggo 9 is only offered in two body colors, Matte Gray (matte grey) which looks premium and Carbon Black (black), making it one of the first models in the country to offer a matte finish from the factory.
Interior Design
The interior of the Chery Tiggo 9 is designed to provide an “intelligent luxury” experience for all passengers.
The main focus on the dashboard is a 15.6-inch vertical infotainment touchscreen with 2.5K resolution, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip for fast and smooth performance.
This large screen is supported by a 10.25 inch digital meter cluster and a Head-Up Display to make it easier for the driver to see important information.
In terms of comfort, the front seats offer a 10-way electric adjustment function for the driver, ventilation and heating functions for the first and second rows, as well as a massage function for the front seats.
The cabin ambiance can be customized with 64-colour ambient lighting, while a 14-speaker Sony audio system, including speakers in the headrests, promises immersive sound quality.
Other facilities include a 50W wireless charger, a central storage space that has a cooling function, and a panoramic roof that makes the cabin feel more spacious.
With a 2+3+2 seating configuration, flexible cargo space is 143 liters when all three rows are used, 448 liters when the third row is folded, and a maximum of 2,065 liters when the two rear rows are folded flat.
Safety is also a priority with 10 airbags, including a front center airbag and a driver’s knee airbag, as well as an ADAS Level 2.5 driver assistance system with 23 functions such as adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane change assist and a 540-degree panoramic camera.

Chery Tiggo 9 Variants and Prices
Chery Tiggo 9 is offered in one main specification but with two package options for buyers, namely Flexi and Prime and the main difference between the two lies in the price and advantages offered:
- Flexi variant: Price RM166,800. This package includes a vehicle guarantee of 7 years or 150,000 km, an engine guarantee of 10 years or 1,000,000 km, and free maintenance service for 5 years.
- Prime Variant: Price RM179,800. This plan offers all the benefits of a Flexi plan with an additional cash rebate of RM5,000, fuel subsidy of RM3,000 and free insurance for a year worth RM4,500. With all these rebates, the effective price is around RM171,800.
These two packages are part of the initial offering, making the Chery Tiggo 9 a very attractive option in the luxury SUV market priced under RM180,000.
