Malaysian Film Festival Background
The Malaysian Film Festival, which began in 1980, is an annual national event organized by the government through FINAS.
2025 will be the 34th edition of the festival.

This film expresses appreciation for the unlimited creativity and dynamism of cinema which is at the heart of today’s visual storytelling art.

Yes, FFM34 will be broadcast live by Radio Television Malaysia (RTM).
Radio Televisi Malaysia (RTM) was appointed as the strategic partner and official broadcaster of FFM34.
The opening date for FFM34 participation is 8 July 2025 and the closing date for FFM34 participation is 18 July 2025.
Eligible films are feature films, short films and documentaries.
For feature films, short films and documentaries, film producers must have a Film Production License from FINAS which is valid until 31 December 2025.
1. The criteria required for the feature film category are local feature films released in Malaysia and approved by the Film Censorship Board (LPF). This film has never participated in the Malaysian Film Festival series and has been screened in local cinemas throughout Malaysia from 01 July 2024 to 30 June 2025.
2. The criteria required for the short film category are films that have never participated in the Malaysian Film Festival series and the screening date on any platform starts from 101 July 2024 to 30 June 2025.
3. The criteria required for the documentary category are documentary films that have never participated in the Malaysian Film Festival series and have been approved by the Film Censorship Board (LPF) and have been screened on any platform from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2025.
4. All candidates must be Malaysian citizens or permanent residents

A total of six (6) award categories are not up for grabs for the 34th Malaysian Film Festival. Categories that are not contested are as follows:

The new categories being contested this year are the Best Action and Horror Action Awards.
A total of sixty-six (66 films) feature films that go through the Mandatory Screening Scheme are eligible to compete. However, feature films that do not go through the Mandatory Screening Scheme but are shown in local cinemas between 1 July 2024 and 30 June 2025 are also welcome to participate in this competition.
The number of entries in the previous FFM33 was one hundred and four (104) entries. This means that seventy (70) are feature films, twenty-one (21) are short films, and thirteen (13) are documentaries.
The last FFM33 was held on December 8 2024 at the Seri Angkasa Auditorium, Angkasapuri, Media City.
The total categories contested at FFM33 in 2024 are twenty-four (24) categories.
