Harmonyos officially present on PC: Huawei’s breakthrough after 5 years of research!

Huawei officially launched the PC version of the Harmonyos Operating System on Thursday, May 8, 2025. This launch marks a significant step for this Chinese technology company to expand its software ecosystems from smart phones and tablets to computer devices. This initiative clearly shows Huawei’s ambition to compete with two technological giants, Microsoft and Apple, who have strong dominance through Windows and MacOS.

Harmonyos development for PC does not occur overnight. Zhu Dongdong, President of Huawei Device BG Tablet and PC Product Line, revealed that this project took five years involving more than 10,000 technicians and 20 research institutions. During this period, Huawei managed to get more than 2,700 patents related to core technology that strengthened the operating system.

“Our goal is to redefine the future of computing with a safe, intelligent, and connected experience,” Zhu said in his official statement, as reported by China Daily. Harmonyos is designed to present an integrated experience by combining hardware, software, chipsets, and cloud -based computing capabilities. In addition, this system is equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) and is designed to support cross -device collaboration.

Previously, Harmonyos was only known as an alternative operating system for Huawei’s mobile devices. The PC version of Harmonyos was built on three main pillars as the technological foundation:

1. Pangkalan Harmonyos – Utilizing the Harmonyos kernel developed with ARK Engine to improve the graphics performance and AI -based user interface.
2. Harmonyos ecosystem – Offering more than 2,000 cross -platform applications, including 150 exclusive applications, as well as WPS Office integration as an alternative to Microsoft Office.
3. Harmonyos experience – Supports more than a thousand external devices and 800 peripherals, ensuring compitability with various devices such as keyboards, mouses, and printers.

Huawei stressed that Harmonyos for PCs are designed with layered and responsive security to the needs of modern users. The AI ​​integration feature functions to optimize device performance, while cloud support allows users to work without location restrictions. The use of Kernel Mandiri reflects the independence of Huawei from Western resources, giving them greater control of privacy and data.

The plan, Huawei will officially release Harmonyos on May 19, 2025, with an initial distribution in the Chinese domestic market. This strategy aims to measure market responses and overcome various regulatory challenges encountered before making global expansion.

The big question that arises is: Can Harmonyos shift the dominance of Windows and MacOS in the personal computer segment?
