What is the FA Cup?
The Malaysian FA Cup is an annual National Football Championship held since 1990, managed by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), before being transferred to the Malaysia Football LLP (MFL) (now known as the Malaysia Football League) in the 2016 season.
It involves professional clubs from the country’s Super League, Premier League and Semi-Pro League.
The competition begins with an initial round between M3 and M4 League clubs, followed by top Premier League clubs in the next round.

The winner of the FA Cup not only gets the prestigious trophy, but also qualifies for Asian club competitions such as the AFC Champions League or AFC Cup, depending on eligibility requirements.
The tournament format focuses on the knockout system, where each match is different from the league which uses the long league system. Currently, competition management has been carried out by the Malaysian Football League (MFL) since 2016.
After 34 editions of the FA Cup, Selangor FC and Kedah Darul Aman FC remain the champions five times, followed by Sri Pahang and Kota Kuala Lumpur three times and JDT as defending champions.
